Three thefts early Monday morning worth more than $4,800

There were several thefts reported in Oak Bay early Sept. 17. A camera — worth $1,800 — was taken from an unlocked vehicle in the 3000 block of Henderson Road. Less than three kilometres away, in the 1400 block of Beach Drive, two bikes totalling $3,000 were stolen around the same time, Oak Bay Police said in a press release.

Unlocked vehicles searched

Oak Bay police are reminding residents to keep their cars locked, after four vehicles were searched for valuables. On Thursday, Sept. 20, three vehicles parked on Estevan Avenue, Beach Drive and Clive Drive, were opened. While police said coins were the only thing taken from the first two vehicles, a briefcase and wallet were taken from the third. On Saturday, Clive Drive had another vehicle opened by someone other than the owner.

In-use fire hose run over by vehicle

While the Oak Bay fire department was responding to a call on Orcard Avenue last week, a passing vehicle drove over the fire hose. The press release said driving over this equipment “is extremely dangerous to both firefighters and bystanders.” Police spoke to the driver and issued a warning. They ask everyone to avoid where firefighters are working. If driving by an active fire response, only drive through where directed by a firefighter or police officer.

House hit by falling tree

On Saturday night, Sept. 22, a large tree fell onto the roof of a house in the 2000 block of Granite Street. High winds had been predicted in the area by Environment Canada. There were no reported injuries from the incident, and how much damage was caused is still being investigated.
