Police briefs: Oak Bay staffer hit with pipe during theft

Used needles dumped on lawn, theft from vehicle, ‘slow’ signs swiped, mischief

Oak Bay Police are investigating assault and theft after an Oak Bay staff member was hit with a pipe last week.

On Aug. 7, police were called to the 1400 block of Monterey Avenue where a public works staff member attended saw a male leaving the area with lengths of pipe destined for recycling. The staff member challenged the male and began taking video. The male swung the pipes around, striking the staff member on the leg. No injury was reported. The male was last seen eastbound on Oak Bay Avenue.

Used needles dumped on lawn

On Aug. 7, police were called to the 2900 block of Oakdowne Road as, overnight, someone dumped a bag of used hypodermic needles on the complainant’s lawn. The needles were taken to Royal Jubilee Hospital for disposal. Police ask anyone with information on the file to call them at 250-592-2424.

‘Slow’ signs swiped

On Aug. 7, police received a report of theft from the 2700 Block of Burdick Ave. Sometime overnight, someone stole two “Slow” signs shaped like children. Valued at $40 each, they have the owner’s name and phone number on the bottom.

Theft from vehicle

On Aug. 7, a theft from auto occurred in the 2000 block of Meadow Place. The suspect entered the complainant’s vehicle and took a backpack containing a wallet, notebook and clothing.

Costly mischief to intercom

On Aug. 10, police were called to the 1400 block of Beach Drive for a complaint of mischief. Sometime overnight, someone damaged the intercom system to the apartment building. Due to the age of the system, it is estimated the cost may be up to $10,000 to replace.
