$2.5 million separates the two options for Carnarvon Park’s new field-house.

The first plan calls for two single storey buildings featuring two change rooms, washrooms, a concession stand, and storage. Size-wise the buildings will have a total gross of 2,280 square feet combined, for an estimated cost of $1.8 million dollars.

The second option is one two storey complex, with 5,400 gross square feet of space. For an estimated $4.3 million, that option would expand the storage space and add larger washrooms and showers to the change-rooms. As proposed, the second floor would have space for both a fitness room and dedicated event space.

About half of the second floor would be a covered patio.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. the draft master plan will be presented by municipal staff and consultants, putting the parks future back in the pubic spotlight. Oak Bay’s website for the event reads that “given previous feedback there will be a draft concept plan for the park for the public to review and provide comment.”

Local tennis players were concerned after the initial plans removed the existing courts without offering replacements. This current plan includes one new court, as well as a practice wall. Pickleball players are not left out – as it stands now they are in line to get four dedicated courts.

The draft plan also features new and expanded water and dry play areas. A PDF of the plan is available to download here.
