Oak Bay baseball parks busy with weekend action

The week's sports happenings around local fields, parks and rinks

The recent weather has been made for baseball and there’s plenty going around this weekend.

In high-performance baseball, the Victoria Eagles start the week at home Saturday, April 23, hosting the Whalley Chiefs in a double-header at Lambrick Park. First pitch is at 12 p.m. with Game 2 scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, April 24, the Premier Eagles head to North Shore for a Twins double-header.

The Victoria Mariners start their four-game weekend on the road when they head to Abbotsford to take on the Abbotsford Cardinals on Saturday, April 23. Returning home Sunday, April 24, the Mariners host the Whalley Chiefs at Henderson Park, near the University of Victoria. Game 1 starts at 11 a.m. and Game 2 at 1:30 p.m.

In Junior Premier play, the Mariners host the Coquitlam Redlegs Saturday, April 23 at Henderson Park, with games scheduled for 1 and 3:30 p.m. Come Sunday, the Redlegs visit the Junior Premier Eagles at Lambrick Park, with games scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

In high school sports, senior badminton continues with Oak Bay hosting St. Michaels University School Tuesday, April 26 at 3:45 p.m. while Glenlyon Norfolk School hosts Ed Milne at 3:45 p.m. On Thursday, April 28, GNS hosts Stelly’s at 3:45 p.m.

It’s the final week of senior girls’ soccer regular season and it begins Thursday, April 28 with GNS heading to Parklands for a 3:45 p.m. kick-off, while SMUS visits Royal Bay at 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, April 26, Oak Bay plays their final regular season game at Braefoot Turf against Reynolds at 3:30 p.m. while GNS and SMUS square off at the SMUS senior school campus at 3:45 p.m.

In junior girls’ play, SMUS hosts Claremont Tuesday, April 26 at 3:45 p.m. and Oak Bay plays Belmont at Goudy Field at 3:30 p.m. Come Thursday,  April 28, SMUS hosts Oak Bay at 3:45 p.m.

On the rugby pitch, senior boys rugby returns to Oak Bay Tuesday, April 26 when Oak Bay hosts Claremont. Kick-off is at 3:45 p.m. On Thursday, April 28, GNS visits Reynolds at 3:45 p.m.

High school girls’ rugby has Oak Bay hosting Vic High and SMUS at Windsor Park, Friday, April 22. Play starts at 3 p.m. On Monday, April 25, Week 5 starts with Oak Bay and GNS visiting Claremont, along with Spectrum. Kick-off is at 3:45 p.m.

Also coming up, the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club opens April 30 at 2190 Harlow Dr. at Carnarvon Park.
