Subdivision of property requires clarification

Re: Community being carved up by greedy developers (Letters, June 1)

I don’t usually write letters to the editor, but felt I had to respond to the rant by Y.B. Douglas.

I think if one checks with Roy Thomassen, director of building and planning for Oak Bay municipality, it is clear that there are no subdivisions being proposed for Uplands Road.

In fact, I know of no subdivisions currently proposed in the entire Uplands area.

I think what Douglas is referring to on Uplands Road is a house which was on a double lot, which has been moved over, so that one of the two lots can be sold.

This is quite different than sub-dividing a large lot.

The statement addressed to council that “you are sitting idly by and letting developers carve up this municipality and double the housing density” is a piece of hyperbole that is so inaccurate as to be laughable.

To the News: please do a little fact-checking before you provide a platform for people who don’t know what they are talking about.
