The present method of providing information to the public about council’s items, plus related correspondence and staff papers is not effective and less than should be expected of a municipality in the 21st century.
In particular, the public only gets to see anything other than agendas upon request and even then, in hard copy only, on the Monday of each meeting.
The Oak Bay website could be used effectively, and with little additional effort, to remedy this situation.
In a genuine spirit of openness, this material would be released simultaneously to the public and to councillors. Implementation of the above would greatly enhance council-public communication and discussion in Oak Bay.
