Candidate’s position clarified on marina

Re: Federal candidate profile 1 of 4: Patrick Hunt (News, April 13)

I have never referred to the proposed Songhees Marina as a “mega-yacht marina” and I am neither supporting nor objecting to the present proposal.

I have maintained my political neutrality on this matter throughout and have never taken a political position on the proper location. I very strongly believe that it’s inappropriate for any MP, and especially federal candidates, to politicize this process.

I support Victoria being a working harbour and favour job creation for marina workers all along the coast of B.C.

However, the province and municipality must decide the suitability of the present application. The role of the federal government is to preserve the safety of our harbour and ensure that any project adheres to federal environmental regulations.
