Allen Harold Child

Allen, Harold Child

9 August 1916 – 15 August 2010

After celebrating his 94th birthday on the sunny deck of Saanichton Peninsula Hospital with his friends of Country Park Village; Harold passed away quietly on August 15, 2010.

Harold had a long, memorable, active and loving life. He joined the British Army in 1941, landed at Dunkirk, and fought in the battle called ADMIN BOX in Burma, receiving the Burma Star. He emigrated from England in 1958 with his wife Flo, following in the footsteps of his war time buddy Tom Theobold and his wife Eve, who had come over the year before.

Most of Harold’s working life in Canada was at Eaton’s in downtown Victoria.

While living at Country Park, Harold was able to enjoy his passion for playing pool and would take on all who would play with or against him. He and his partners won more games than they lost. He had a slow, exact shot and seldom missed the target.

Our deepest thanks to Dr. Ambrose Marsh for his kind and attentive care, and to the wonderful staff and volunteers of the Palliative Care Unit at Saanich Peninsula Hospital: their cheerful, happy attitude made Harold’s last 2 months comfortable and at ease.

Harold was predeceased by his wife, Flo, and he will be sadly missed by his nephew Jim Bentinck and wife Gillian, his niece Patricia Bainbridge and husband Richard, and niece Diane Beall (all who reside in England), and his many friends at Country Park Village.

A celebration of life will be held at the Clubhouse in Country Park Village, 7583 Central Saanich Road on Sunday, 29th September, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Friends and acquaintances, please accept this invitation.
