Uplands break-and-enter in progress scuttled

Suspected thief scared off by resident's arrival

Breaking into a home in an Uplands cul-de-sac in the early hours Sunday didn’t work out so well for a suspected thief.

A Humber Road resident returning home at about 4:30 a.m. found damage to a rear patio door and heard glass smashing in the basement, after which she promptly called police.

Police arrived and searched the home, but the suspect had already fled the scene. A police dog brought in tracked the scent as far as Beach Drive, but lost the scent soon after.

The resident reported that nothing was stolen.
