Students from the Oak Bay High Environment Club will don their waders this Saturday to launch dozens of yellow rubber duckies into Bowker Creek for the annual Rubber Duckie Race.

Organized and hosted by members of the Oak Bay High environment club, this community-building event consists of a creek clean up, watershed displays, light snacks, and a competitive fun ducky race.

It is ‘two ducks, five bucks’ to participate in the race with the funds going toward stewardship of the creek.

“The main point is to bring awareness to Bowker Creek and the restoration work that has been done,” said Ali Gallant, grade 12 student in the Environment Club. “It is a fun event to get the community involved and to celebrate Bowker Creek.”

Oak Bay High has been heavily involved with the Bowker Creek Initiative project to rejuvenate the waterway adjacent to the school. This event is an opportunity to celebrate that work.

The clean-up portion runs from 10 to 11 a.m. with the duck race officially beginning at 11 a.m..

Purchase your ducks by the Outdoor Classroom just before the race.
