Suspicious fire destroys abandoned Victoria home

Fire broke out after reports of loud explosions in 800-block of Queens Ave.

A suspicious fire broke out at an abandoned house in the 800-block of Queens Ave. early this morning.

Victoria Police Department received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. from a man who stated he heard loud explosions and saw smoke billowing from the residence.

The fire took approximately two hours to get under control, said Bob Jones of the Victoria Fire Department.

Damage is estimated to be $600,000, Jones said, adding the vacant home will likely be demolished.

Police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity around the home to call VicPD on the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
