Oak Bay police hope to identify a stranger who offered a youth a ride on May 9.
A Lansdowne Middle School student had missed their bus on Foul Bay Road and the driver of an older, large SUV pulled over, got out and offered the young person a ride. The student refused and ran from the area. Police were called around 10 a.m., according to an Oak Bay Police Department release.
The man who offered the ride is described as Caucasian, 6’ to 6’3” tall, red-faced with thinning hair, as well as rotten and missing front teeth. The vehicle is described as a 2010 to 2012 red Ford Escape with two-tone seats in tan and dark brown. Despite patrols, police were unable to locate the vehicle or identify a suspect.
It was among the 73 calls for service to the department during the week of May 8 to 14.

Driver faces fine for dooring cyclist
Police plan to visit a driver who left after causing a cyclist to crash.
The cyclist was travelling west on Beach Drive the morning of May 10 when the driver of the parked truck opened the driver-side door, knocking the cyclist to the ground, Oak Bay police said in a news release.
The cyclist suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment. The driver initially remained on scene and provided his information but left before officers arrived. Police plan to follow up, issuing the driver a ticket for opening the door when prohibited – with a fine of $368.

Pool hours spur angry outburst
Police hope to identify a woman they say made threats in the heat of anger over recreation centre hours.
Oak Bay Police Department received information that on May 7 a woman had become upset at Oak Bay Recreation Centre staff for the change of hours at the pool.
The woman entered the pool area and made verbal threats against the staff which was overheard by a pool patron, police said.
The patron reported what they heard to recreation staff the next day and police were later notified. The woman who allegedly made the threats has not yet been identified.
