Senior thwarts would-be burglars

An elderly woman nearly found herself at the centre of a break and enter last Thursday, when during her afternoon rest two men attempted to break into her patio window with a screwdriver.

The woman was resting in her home on Monterey Avenue at about 3 p.m. Dec. 6.

She heard someone knocking loudly on her front door but chose not to answer. She then witnessed a man exiting her property and meeting a second man on the sidewalk. Later, she watched the same two men return, one holding a screwdriver and attempting to open the window.

The woman opened the door and confronted the suspects who fled.

One man had a scruffy beard, was wearing a blue hoodie and a dark back pack. The second was clean shaven, balding with slicked back hair and carrying a dark bag. Both were estimated at 20 years old.

Police remind residents not to confront criminals and to immediately call 911.
