The Greater Victoria School District seeks public input on parents and priorities as the student population rises in the region.
Long-term enrolment projections show the district could see an increase of 2,000 students over the next 10 years and anticipate some schools would be challenged to accommodate the demand for catchment students, as well as choice. Schools such as the new Oak Bay High, already feel those pressures.
“Determining how student registrations are prioritized when space is limited haven’t been reviewed in many years and so it is essential that we hear from parents about what is important to them,” said Piet Langstraat, district superintendent.
Visit sd61.bc.ca to find student enrolment priorities survey online. It is also available in print and in five languages to reach parents whose first language is not English. The survey closes Monday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
A summary outlining the process and input collected will be available for the public, the committee and the board’s review in May. The committee expects to make recommendations to the Board of Education on May 23.
