Police make two bike-theft arrests at once

Timing was everything for Oak Bay police and a cyclist

When officers attended a theft-of-bike call at Oak Bay Marina, they solved two crimes at once.

The suspected thief was arrested on a bike at 10:30 a.m. June 18 and found in possession of break-in tools. Meanwhile, a resident walking nearby at the time recognized the suspect’s ride as his bike, which he wasn’t aware had been stolen.

The suspect had a warrant out for his arrest, for suspicion of stealing a different bike. He was facing charges of possession of stolen property and breach of probation and was banned from entering Oak Bay.
