Oak Bay residents may not know that all new police vehicles for the department are brought to the yard first to be transformed from a basic vehicle to a police-ready cruiser.
The work is done by Wayne Wooster, Oak Bay municipal yard shop foreman, and his crew and sees sirens, lights and flashers, and a specialized back seat installed. Each vehicle takes about 40 hours to complete.
The new addition is one of the last two white Ford Crown Victoria police cars in Canada, Wooster says.
