Pedestrian struck, vehicles targeted by thieves in Oak Bay

Police say the snow did not affect call volume

Last week’s weather did not have a big impact on calls to Oak Bay Police.

In all, police responded to 73 calls between Feb. 11 and Feb. 17.

One of the more serious incidents last week happened Feb. 15, when police responded to a pedestrian being struck while crossing the intersection of Oak Bay Avenue and Wilmot Place. Police say that witnesses said the pedestrian tried to cross the street without giving enough time for traffic to stop before being hit. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution. The driver involved remained at the scene and was co-operative. Police would like to remind everyone to be vigilant on the road and give ample reaction time to other users.

Police still have not found the owner of a lost ring that was found near Fort and Foul Bay Road on Feb. 12. Police ask the rightful owner to come forward and give a detailed description of the ring.

One Feb. 14 four vehicles in Oak Bay were targeted for break-ins. Two vehicles had change stolen along the 1000 block of Monterey Avenue, and two more were rummaged through in the 2100 block of Hall Road without anything reported stolen.

Police were called to Oak Bay Avenue on Feb. 15 after a report of mischief at the Municipal Hall’s public washroom. The door to the men’s washroom sustained minor damages after a cubical was pulled off its hinges.
