Oak Bay police nab 3 impaired drivers in first 3 days of summer campaign

Department caught 3 impaired drivers during entire summer 2020 season

Summer is off to a notoriously busy start in the impaired driver issue for the Oak Bay Police Department.

Officers took three drivers off the road in the first three days of the department’s summer check stop program.

Parked along Beach Drive near Windsor Road on June 29, police nabbed the first impaired driver just after 10:30 p.m. The 58-year-old driver was issued a 90-day roadside prohibition and the vehicle she was driving was impounded for 30 days.

A second driver, a 37-year-old, was caught at 11:15 p.m. after police say she attempting to evade the roadblock. She was issued a three-day prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for three days.

July 1 officers set up another road block in the 1900-block of Oak Bay Avenue. There, a 78-year-old driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Last year, Oak Bay police caught three impaired drivers during the summer months and 12 for the year.
