A 9-1-1 call drew Oak Bay police officers to a break in, in progress at a business on Oak Bay Avenue around 4 a.m. today (May 17). Reports were of a man and a woman breaking into the business.

“Our officers raced to the scene, and within two minutes, located two suspicious individuals a short distance away,” said Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties. “The male threw the stolen cash on the ground and fled on foot but police had already identified him.”

A woman was found with a stolen tablet and arrested. Oak Bay police plan to request a warrant for the man. They believe all of the stolen property was recovered.

“As a resident myself, its nice to know that while we’re sleeping, our officers are patrolling and able to respond so quickly when needed,” Bernoties said. “We have a few very tired officers completing their paperwork but despite being in their 16th hour of work, their spirits are high as it’s rewarding to successfully solve a B&E so quickly.”
