Oak Bay man injured as he fights would-be thief

Suspect arrested after striking resident with pry bar

 

Oak Bay Police responded to a 911 call in the 800 block of St. Patrick Street at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday evening, where a resident had interrupted a break and enter at his residence.

Police say the suspect fled and the homeowner attempted to grab him but was unsuccessful. The homeowner told police the suspect then turned back on the him and struck him with a pry bar, causing extensive injury to his forearm. A struggle ensued and the homeowner was able to get the crowbar away from the male, who then fled.

Police were able to establish the identity of a suspect, who is known to police, and a region-wide bulletin was broadcast to all local police agencies. At approximately 5:45 a.m. Aug. 21 the suspect was arrested in the downtown area by VicPD officers. The homeowner was taken to hospital with a significant laceration to his arm.

A 19 year old man is in custody and will appear in court later today charged with Aggravated Assault, Break and Enter, Theft and Possession of Break-In Instruments.

The man will also be charged by VicPD with Possession Of Stolen Property in relation to the Oak Bay break and enter.
