The Committee of the Whole was greeted by a strong display of citizen engagement at the meeting on Nov. 20.
One of the items up for consideration was parking regulations in the Oak Bay village area.
Staff presented a report to the committee with a summary of the existing parking regulations and an analysis of two parking surveys. Based on the analysis of the parking situation, staff recommended just one change – the parking regulations near the intersection of Foul Bay and Granite should be changed from unlimited parking to a two-hour parking Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. area.
A few community members spoke regarding this report and recommendation. Some expressed concern about the lack of response in dealing with the commercial truck traffic, while others thought the proposed change to two-hour parking was not enough.
After some discussion, the committee voted unanimously to approve the motion to change the regulations from unlimited parking to two-hour parking near the intersection of Foul Bay and Granite.
