Oak Bay Mayor Christopher Causton and municipal staffers climbed under their desks Wednesday as part of the Great British Columbia Shakeout, a provincewide earthquake drill.
Causton knew the correct procedure, to drop, cover and hold on. Oak Bay Deputy Fire Chief Dave Cockle was on hand for the drill and pointed out the importance of holding on to whatever you take shelter under in an earthquake.
“The desk can move away from you,” he said.
More than 460,000 people across the province took part in the two-minute drill.
