The Fraser Institute released its annual ranking of B.C. high schools. In Greater Victoria, Glenlyon Norfolk, a private school in Victoria, was the top ranked school with a score of 8.9 out of 10.
The lowest ranked school was Esquimalt High, which scored a 4.1.
Tara Ehrcke, president of the Greater Victoria Teachers' Association, says the rankings, based on numeracy and literacy tests, offer an incomplete picture of a school's quality and overlook programs that offer career and life skills.
"For certain students, that's what keeps them in school," Ehrcke said, lauding 4.5-rated Victoria High's cosmetology program. "That's what provides them some passion in terms of future career opportunities and none of that is part of what the Fraser Institute looks at."
