Estevan parking needs another look

Oak Bay’s head of engineering has to head out with clipboard in hand – again.

Although Dave Marshall met with the Willows school principal and Estevan Village merchants this winter to address parking complaints from residents, Oak Bay council asked him to do more research.

Marshall had recommended keeping the status quo. Residents have complained they are often unable to park in front of their homes because of Village shoppers’ vehicles.

“I don’t have a magic solution to deal with the problem,” Marshall told councillors at their Monday meeting this week.

About a dozen Estevan-area residents showed up to ask that ‘local traffic only’ signage be installed on select streets.

Councillors voted to have Marshall investigate the feasibility of restricting parking times and moving handicapped spots from the corner of Musgrave Street and Estevan Avenue to a more central location on Estevan.
