A female police officer was dragged down a flight of stairs after grabbing a teenager trying to run from a house party early Saturday morning.

Saanich police were called to the 4200-block of Hayden Ct. at 3:30 a.m. by a teenager who had thrown a party at her home. When at least one uninvited guests arrived and wouldn’t leave, she called the cops.

Multiple officers attended, and an officer who had made her way to the front door encountered a 19-year-old man, the subject of the complaint, standing outside.

The officer attempted to question the man, but he was not cooperative.

When she tried to restrain him, he pulled away. The officer grabbed on to his jacket, but when he fled, she was pulled to the ground and dragged down the front steps.

Another officer who was arriving on scene was able to stop the suspect and arrest him.

The female officer hit her head, but did not suffer any injuries.

The 19-year-old Saanich man was brought back to the Saanich police department, and held overnight until he sobered up.

He was charged with assaulting a peace officer, and released with a scheduled court date.
