One driver is in hospital after their vehicle hit the centre median and rolled over near Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. The crash occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. Police on scene said there were no other passengers in the car, which was southbound.
North Saanich fire chief John Trelford said it was possible the driver had a medical incident which caused the crash. Tire tracks on site suggest the car was coming down the ramp from Lands End Road and crossed three lanes of traffic before hitting the centre median and rolling over. When emergency crews arrived, including about 12 North Saanich firefighters, a ferry was unloading, so Trelford said “really it’s a miracle she didn’t nail any other cars, honestly.” North Saanich Fire used the Jaws of Life to remove two doors from the vehicle to extricate her.
The driver was “conscious and vital” when transported to hospital by B.C. Ambulance Service, but there is no update on her condition.
