Mayor Nils Jensen announces his intentions to seek re-election in the upcoming municipal election.

“I have been privileged to have thousands of citizens share their deepest concerns and desires for our community to me, and I’ll work to ensure that my stance on issues carefully considers those conversations,” says Jensen.

If re-elected, Jensen says he will continue the momentum started on a number of initiatives including the regulation of secondary suites, management of the urban deer population, the Heritage Conservation Area that will create a model for heritage protection, and upgrading water, sewer and sidewalk infrastructure.

Jensen was elected mayor of Oak Bay in 2011 after 15 years of experience as a councillor. An adjunct professor of law and former Crown Counsel, he served for 12 years as chair of the Capital Regional District Water Board. He has also served as chair of the Capital Regional District board, trustee for the Greater Victoria Public Library and chair of BC Mayors’ Caucus.

“I want a community that it is livable for families and seniors,” says Jensen. “That includes appropriate housing options that maintain our neighborhoods, confines multi-family developments to main thoroughfares, and permit our senior residents to age in the community they love and know.”

Tougher tree protection laws, predictable tax rates, more bike lanes developed through consultation, greater regional integration of public safety services including the preservation of fire dispatch services in the region, and continued support for the arts are all things Jensen says he will push for in the next term.
