Nominations close, two-man race for Oak Bay mayor

10 names bid for six council seats in the Oct. 20 municipal election

Nominations closed at 4 p.m. and the official lists are ready for Oak Bay voters to head for the polls in the Oct. 20 municipal election. In Oak Bay, residents will elect a mayor and six councillors.

Incumbent mayor Nils Jensen and incumbent Coun. Kevin Murdoch battle for the position of mayor.

10 are registered to run for the office of councillor: Andrew Appleton, Hazel Braithwaite, Anton Brakhage, Cairine Green, Isabella Lee, Tara Ney, Esther Paterson, Andrew Stinson, Ronald Telfer and Eric Zhelka.

All candidates meetings: Sept. 22 at Monterey Recreation Centre from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., sponsored by Oak Bay Watch; Sept. 26 at Emmanuel Baptist Church on the corner of Henderson and Cedar Hill X Rd. 7 to 9 p.m., sponsored by the North Oak Bay Community Association; Oct. 11 at Dave Dunnet Community Theatre, Oak Bay High, 7 to 9 p.m., sponsored by the Community Association of Oak Bay.

Voting opportunities: Advance voting: Oct. 10 at the Oak Bay municipal hall between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.; Oct. 17 at Student Union Building, University of Victoria between noon and 6 p.m.; Oct. 17 at the Oak Bay municipal hall between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

General voting is Saturday, Oct. 20 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church – 2121 Cedar Hill X Rd.; and Monterey centre – 1442 Monterey Ave.; and Monterey Middle School – 851 Monterey Ave.

Oak Bay residents will also vote for school trustees.
