What actions can we take today to make Greater Victoria Victoria and the southern Gulf Islands better for our grandkids and future generations? That’s the question at the heart of the 2024 Victoria’s Vital Signs survey, released by the Victoria Foundation.
The results of the survey, paired with other local statistics, will form the Victoria’s Vital Signs community checkup released later this year – a measure of the vitality of our region, exploring trends in areas ranging from the economy, to housing, to arts and culture.
Sponsored by Coast Capital, the survey is open until noon, May 31, and encourages respondents to grade 12 aspects of the community, both generally and as it relates to them specifically.
“Victoria’s Vital Signs provides the community with information that sparks action to improve our region,” says Sandra Richardson, Victoria Foundation CEO.
“There are significant complex and integrated challenges in our community, and we hope the theme for 2024 and information collected will help us identify solutions for our region to help our grandkids and future generations.”
The survey questions ask respondents to consider Greater Victoria as we experience it today, and how we anticipate it being in the future. Looking ahead, can our children and grandchildren have a healthy environment? Can they be prosperous here in the capital region? Can they even afford to stay here?
These themes are integrated throughout the survey and the entire 2024 program, including the Sept. 24 launch event.
Last year’s survey generated a grade of ‘B’ for overall quality of life, with arts and culture, environmental sustainability and sports and recreation rated the highest; housing, conversely, scored the lowest with a D, followed by the ability for people to get started in Victoria, which earned a C.
Why fill out the survey?
Survey responses are used to produce the comprehensive Victoria’s Vital Signs report, which combines public opinion and statistics to provide a snapshot of livability and well-being in Greater Victoria. The report can then be used by donors, funders, communities and non-profits to identify and address some of the most pressing issues in the community. The report is full of information that can help direct programs and funding, for example.
