UPDATE: Pedestrian, 79, seriously hurt after being hit by vehicle in Victoria

A 79-year-old pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after they were struck by a vehicle downtown on Friday (May 24) morning.

Victoria police said the pedestrian was struck around 11 a.m. while crossing the road at the intersection of Fisgard and Government streets, which was closed for several hours as officers investigated. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital and the driver remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.

Victoria police officers could be seen inspecting a Dodge Ram pickup truck surrounded by police tape at the intersection.

VicPD is looking for dashcam footage, CCTV footage and witnesses of the incident. Anyone with that information is asked to call 250-995-7654 ext. 1.
