Victoria Fire Department deployed six different apparatus for the structure fire just as firefighters were sitting down to eat, according to a department post on social media.

Victoria fire credits the reach of the 110-foot ladder to hit the flames shooting from the roof of the home.

“A combination of 2.5” hose lines and the aerial ladder were used to suppress the fire until it was safe for crews to enter the structure and finish extinguishing the fire. It was evident that the fire was seated in the void roof space, and only when firefighters were able to enter the ceiling was the fire extinguished,” the post reads.

Fire inspectors are investigating the cause and a fire watch crew remained overnight.

Residents had been living in the basement suite during renovations to the upper floors.
