Housing in Oak Bay is at the forefront these days and a community group hopes to entice conversation with a forum featuring residents and government.

In fall 2023, Oak Bay was named among the first 10 communities subject to the provincial Housing Supply Act, tasked with delivering 664 units in the next five years.

A March 12 community forum, hosted by the Community Association of Oak Bay, aims to continue the conversation, exploring how best to get governments and the community working together to relieve the severe shortage of housing options.

The forum will include BC Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon, Virginia Holden from the Greater Victoria Housing Society and Saanich Coun. Zac de Vries who serves as chair of the Capital Region Housing Corporation.

Kahlon grew up locally, Holden is a current Oak Bay resident, and de Vries graduated from the University of Victoria in 2017. Oak Bay Mayor Kevin Murdoch will also provide the district’s perspective.

Oak Bay resident and UVic professor Michael Prince serves as moderator for Housing in Oak Bay: Where do we go from here? set for March 12 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Philip Anglican Church, 2928 Eastdowne Rd.
