Prepare for a musical journey this holiday season as Festive Brass, renowned for their innovative take on Christmas classics, presents Reindeer Games.

This vibrant performance promises a stocking full of traditional carols and holiday favorites, delivered with a unique twist that’s bound to enchant audiences. The first show will be on Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Sidney Mary Winspear Centre. A second show will be performed in Victoria at the Farquar Auditorium on Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

An exceptional brass quintet, accompanied by an all-star rhythm ensemble, it will sing a diverse selection of musical gems. The repertoire includes spirited renditions like “Good Swing Wenceslas,” soulful interpretations of “Silent Night,” sentimental favourites from “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” and, not to be missed, Festive Brass’ famously inventive “Rudolph Variations.” With brilliantly bold, jazzy, and occasionally whimsical arrangements, along with engaging banter and infectious charisma, this show will evoke warmth, nostalgia, and a true festive spirit.

The roots of Festive Brass trace back two decades, to a moment when the world-famous Butchart Gardens sought to enhance their enchanting Christmas light displays with live music. A brass ensemble was brought in to provide the festive soundtrack, giving birth to The Festive Brass. Fast forward to 2022, and Festive Brass took their show “on the road,” captivating audiences on Vancouver Island with sold-out performances and earning rave reviews.

With a vast song library boasting nearly two hundred arrangements, most of which are crafted by ensemble members themselves, Festive Brass proudly claims the ability to play nearly any Christmas tune upon request, even humorously declaring, “If we don’t know it, we’ll fake it.” Notably, Festive Brass has graced the stage as guest artists with the Vancouver Island Symphony, showcasing their unique arrangements for brass and a full orchestra. Their first quartet album, “Gift Wrapped by Request,” enjoyed three sold-out pressings, and anticipation is building for their forthcoming second album.

The band is composed of the talented musicians Stevan Paranosic, David Flello and Bruce Hurn on trumpet and flugelhorn, Nick La Riviere on trombone, Robert Fraser on bass trombone, and Jonathan Eng on drums. Special guests Nicolas Rhodes on keys and Nick Mintenko on bass add even more depth to their spectacular performances.

Reindeer Games by Festive Brass is sure to be a holiday highlight, promising an unforgettable musical experience filled with joy, creativity, and the spirit of the season.
