Residents encouraged to play pick up sticks at Anderson Hill in Oak Bay

Once the thunder, lighting and hail passed Saturday morning, work got underway at Anderson Hill, under calm skies with sunny patches.

Lisa and Peter Miller tackled the gorse grow back for several hours, according to Christina Johnson-Dean, who organizes many of the cleanups in the picturesque Oak Bay park.

“Meanwhile I worked on clearing ivy, broom, holly, and daphne to the south of the Centennial Trail. There’s a clear path to follow now to the lower meadow,” she said.

Over recent weeks, volunteer crews cleared gorse to clear the view down the hill to the water.

“The wildflowers are really coming up - blue camas, miners lettuce, spring gold, red dead nettle (henbit), and even the start of the white death camas,” she said. “There are two big piles down by the lower meadow. If you walk that way, please take some branches to the front gate for pickup by the municipality.”
