More rec time for little ones
Recreation Oak Bay’s preschool programs will last three hours, three days a week as of September.
A survey of parents found a need to co-ordinate preschool programs with public school morning kindergarten times. The program currently runs for two-and-a-half hours. The additional half-hour will “ensure more time for learning,” a parks and recreation staff report said.
Boomers boost rec programs
This winter saw 160 more people registered in fitness programs than the previous year.
Parks and recreation director Lorna Curtis said more programs, including specialty yoga classes, were added to keep up with demand.
“It’s definitely the baby boomers who are signing up. It’s the same with lifelong learning courses at Monterey Centre, registrations are up there, too.”
