Oak Bay celebrating Canada Day early

Break out your flags and bring your appetite

You don’t have to wait until July 1 to celebrate the country’s birthday. The second annual Oak Bay Celebrate Canada event happens Thursday (June 30).

The free event, put on by Recreation Oak Bay staff, is geared towards kids, with everything from giant bubble-making and a bouncy castle to face painting and other games.

There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers up for grabs, as well as music by a local DJ and Swingin’ Strings, a group from Monterey Centre.

Mary Kucera, head of marketing for Recreation Oak Bay, said the idea is to have a community gathering without detracting from the many other events going on July 1.
