The Salish Sea Refugee Sponsorship Group doubles down on fundraising initiatives with a garage sale and block party in Oak Bay on Saturday.
Everyone is welcome to a family-friendly community event featuring a magic show by magician Derek Johnson (at 5 p.m.), a barbecue and beverages, plant sale, face painting and a bouncy castle – all by donation.
The Salish Sea Refugee Sponsorship Group is a group of friends and neighbours working together to bring members of the Syrian refugee family to Victoria to join extended family already here.
Alongside the block party on June 23, the McLaren Avenue neighbours plan to sell a wide variety of used items and plants. Local kids will have a lemonade stand and baked goods for sale. Anyone looking to donate items to the sale, can email dougsolon@gmail.com, by June 22.
McLaren Ave Block Party for Refugees is Saturday, June 23 from 3:30 pm – 8:30 p.m. at 2124 McLaren Ave.
