Get-out-of-jail free cards not allowed

Getting 30 students to Mexico to build two houses for locals costs money.

Oak Bay High is resorting to innovative fundraising methods to do so. Oak Bay police will be picking up notable volunteers, who will be taken to a makeshift jail at Hillside Mall this Saturday (April 15). Coun. Hazel Braithwaite and Oak Bay High principal Dave Thomson will go behind bars that afternoon and seek “bailout” funds as part of the Hero Holiday fundraiser.

The goal is to raise a minimum of $12,000 to help defray the travel costs for the students, who are planning to make the trip during spring break 2012. If you would like to donate to the project e-mail brentgarraway@hotmail.com
