Lingering at the shoreline long before anyone alive now did, an oak tree on Beach Drive is poised for removal.
Oak Bay plans to celebrate the gnarled elder beforehand.
Already folks have started sharing memoirs of the leaning oak in the 1400-block of Beach – thank you notes pinned to its trunk not far from the yellow notice of removal.
In anticipation of its final days looking over the water, Pamela Woodland started seeking out history of the tree, which many peg at beyond 200 years old.
A group has now pulled together a small celebration for the tree dubbed Before the Felling. Woodland invites all to attend on Monday (April 1) at 1 p.m. at the base of the tree.
Everyone is welcome to honour the oak, or do it in their own way.
The tree is set to come down April 3.
