Vocal Jazz group hosts fundraiser at Felicita’s

The UVic Vocal Jazz Ensemble hosts a fundraiser this Saturday, Jan. 21, at Felicita’s Pub, in the Student Union Building.

Join the ensemble for a night of up-tempo swing solos, sultry Latin grooves and bittersweet ballads from 8 to 11 p.m. Admission is $5 and donations will be accepted, with all proceeds benefiting the ensemble workshops and events. Must be 19 or older, with two pieces of photo ID.

Talk explores Anglican Communion

UVic’s Centre for Studies in Religion and Society welcomes a Jan. 26 talk by visiting lecturer Katharine Jefferts Schori, discussing Religion, Science and Colonialism in the Anglican Communion Today.

In this free public lecture, 5 to 6 p.m. in Room A120 of the David Turpin Building, Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, 2006-2015, explores how different ways of knowing in religion and science have influenced the Anglican Communion and how they continue to shape partnerships and engagement.

Anarchy in the UK

Geographer Richard White, visiting lecturer from the UK’s Sheffield Hallam University, discusses Anarchy in the UK! Envisioning and Enacting the Anarchist City Thursday, Jan. 26.

Part of UVic’s City Talks series, the free discussion runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Legacy Downtown.

White, whose research covers a range of ethical, economic and activist geographies focused on social justice, argues that anarchy in the UK remains alive and well. Learn more at thecitytalks.ca
