March 5 event organizer looking for donations

In the many years she’s been organizing the Oak Bay High band garage sale, Caryn Clark has seen a lot of unusual donations, from an organ to ping pong tables.

For 15 years, the sale in the school’s east gym has raised money to purchase music chairs, stands, instruments and sheet music for more than 200 students in Oak Bay High’s six bands.

In 2009 the sale brought in more than $4,000. The goal is to match that this time around, Clark said.

More than 200 volunteers will be on hand for the sale, scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 5.

Clark is driving around these days picking up donations of books, china, clothing, small furnishings, garden tools and toys. “What we don’t want is exercise or baby equipment,” she said.

To make a donation, call Clark at 250-595-2036.
