Soccer playoffs

Royal Athletic Park hops all weekend with playoff soccer action as the Vancouver Island Soccer League Cup finals converge. Of note: Div. 3 Challenge Cup Saanich Fusion vs Gorge-Us Guys, noon; George Smith U21 Cup, Cowichan vs Vic West; 2:30 p.m. VISL Cup finals continue Sunday at RAP: Tony Grover Cup Gorge vs Cowichan noon Senior Mens, Div. 1 Jackson Cup, Lakehill vs Gorge (both Saanich teams) 2:30 p.m.

Keg Spring Cup at Centennial Stadium as both the University of Victoria Vikes men’s and women’s soccer team are set to host some of the top university teams in Western Canada on March 24-25. UVic plays at 2 (women) and 4 p.m. (men) Saturday, playoffs on Sunday.

Fossil Fair

Saturday and Sunday at the Swan Lake nature house, 3873 Swan Lake Rd. Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Dinosaurs, trilobites, ammonites, enormous clams and sharks lived in the ancient tropical coral seas and palm tree forests that covered Vancouver Island. Paleontologists will share their personal fossil discoveries. Bring your own fossils for identification. Kids can follow a scavenger hunt, or make fossil and dinosaur rubbings. Hosted by the Victoria Paleontological Society. Admission by donation.

Lego Mania 

Tillicum Centre’s Lego Mania 2018 is Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25. This year’s theme is sports and recreation.

Michael Dunahee Fun Run

The 27th annual Michael Dunahee Keep the Hope Alive Drive 5km Family Fun Run/Walk starting at 10 a.m. at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre, 527 Fraser Street Esquimalt BC. This is a fun family event and everyone of all ages are encouraged to come out and “Keep the Hope Alive” by walking, running or rolling your way in support of the Dunahee family and Child Find BC. Commemorative T-Shirts for participants are available upon registration.

Hockey nights

These Western Hockey League B.C. Division rivals Victoria Royals and Vancouver Giants opens the playoffs at home tonight and Saturday (7:05 p.m.) at Save on Foods Memorial Centre.

In the BCHL, the Grizzlies battle the Powell River Kings at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre tonight for Game 5. If needed they’ll head to Powell River for Game 6 on Saturday. The Grizzlies are down 3-1 in the best of seven. They already completed one reverse sweep of the Alberni Bulldogs in round one of playoffs.

Saturday the Saanich Braves face the Campbell River Storm in a VIJHL final 7:45 p.m. at Pearkes.

Blossom Ride

Dust off the bike and come out and see the blossoms and flowers with the Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition starting at 10 a.m. An easy 16 km, the ride starts and ends at Centennial Square with regular stops to smell the flowers. Bring a lunch.
