Watching Muhammayed Sayed smash the ball towads his partner across the table, one could be mistaken into thinking that Sayed has figured this game out.

That is until Tat Ma, the youth table tennis instructor, hits the ball back while bellowing instructions.

“Not with the arm, use the shoulder,” Ma says, while continuing to volley with Sayed. “Make sure you swing from the shoulder.”

The 12-year-old Sayed is one of a dozen boys who enrolled in Cedar Hill’s winter table tennis session for youths.

Members of the group and Ma will be at Cedar Hill Rec. on April 6 where the gym will be full of ping pong tables for World Table Tennis Day, a free event from 3 to 7:15 p.m. World Table Tennis Day is for all ages, from middle school aged children and up.

“We want everyone to come down and enjoy some table tennis,” Ma says. “It’s a great game, a great way to be active.”

The event will be fun, and there will be prizes.
