Victoria Royals earn point in overtime loss to Vancouver Giants

Victoria falls 2-1 to Vancouver in their third contest in three days

The Victoria Royals were edged 2-1 in overtime by the Vancouver Giants in their third game in as many days.

Phillip Schultz scored the sole goal of the game for the Royals with Kody McDonald and Scott Walford both assisting.

Goaltender Brock Gould spent 61 minutes in the game with 28 saves in 31 shots.

The game on Feb. 24 marked the last time this season the Victoria Royal’s will play three games in three nights.

This was the Royals’ 23rd contest this season that has been decided by one goal. With this defeat, Victoria is now 13-7-1-2 in games that have been decided by a single goal.

Former Royal and current Giants’ captain, Jared Dmytriw, recorded an assist in his final regular season game at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena Sunday. The 20-year old played three campaigns with the Victoria Royals (2014 to 2017) and parts of two seasons with the Vancouver Giants (2017 to 2019).

The Royals are back in action as they wrap up their four-game homestand on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 to face the Prince George Cougars.

Friday, Feb. 22

The Victoria Royals were defeated by the Vancouver Giants 4-0 on Feb. 22 at the Langley Events Centre in the first contest of three games in three nights.

Goaltender Brock Gould played 60 minutes with 30 saves on 34 shots

Saturday, Feb. 23

Victoria Royals’ goaltender Griffen Outhouse, was named the first star of the game, made 38 saves in the team’s 5-4 shootout win over the Vancouver Giants in front of a sold out crowd for Pink in the Rink Night.

Brandon Cutler, Kody McDonald, Dino Kambeitz, Logan Doust all scored a goal with Carson Miller, Griffen Outhouse, Scott Walford, Jameson Murray and Tanner Sidaway all assisting. Philli Schultz scored the shootout winner.

Griffen Outhouse stopped five out of seven shootout attempts.
