Uplands swings into action

The Bayview CardTronics Open continues through the weekend at Oak Bay’s Uplands Golf Club. Supporting the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, the second round opens today (June 9) at 7:30 a.m. with the third and fourth rounds continuing Saturday and Sunday. Tee-off both mornings is at 8:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 for a day pass – for more information visit bpcopen.ca.

Div. 1 cricket returns to Oak Bay when Albion plays the Alcos at noon Sunday, June 11 at Windsor Park, while Oak Bay heads to Metchosin to take on the West Shore team.

Enjoy an evening at the park when Div. 2 midweek play has Spinnakers play MCC at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 13 at Windsor Park, while Wednesday, June 14 has Fulham taking on Ross Bay at 6 p.m. at Windsor Park.

For ball games of a different variety, the Victoria Eagles Premier Bantam team takes to the field Saturday at Carnarvon Park, welcoming Okanagan for games at 3 and 5:30 p.m.

With both the senior and junior Victoria Mariners baseball teams on the road this weekend, attention turns to the Victoria Junior Eagles who host the Coquitlam Redlegs in a Saturday doubleheader at Lambrick Park. First pitches go at 12:05 and 2:35 p.m.

In Victoria Harbourcats baseball, the team returns for a two-game home stand against the Port Angeles Lefties Monday, June 12 and Tuesday, June 13. Games both nights go at 6:35 p.m.

The next generation of Carnarvon Baseball Club ball players conclude league play this week in preparation for the first round of playoffs, beginning Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Fireman’s Park. Games continue Saturday at Fireman’s, beginning at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Come enjoy some time at the park and cheer on these young athletes.

Turning to regional lacrosse, the Victoria Shamrocks return home to an action-packed arena on Friday, June 16 when they host the New Westminster Salmonbellies at 7:30 p.m. at the Q Centre.

The Jr. Shamrocks host the Jr. Salmonbellies on Sunday, June 11 at 2 p.m. at the Q Centre.

Racing fans head to Western Speedway for one of the premier events of the season, the Strawberry Cup, Friday and Saturday night. CAMRA Vintage Modifieds take spectators back in time as drivers battle it out like it’s 1975. The Lightning Fast Winged Sprint Cars make their second appearance of the season, and the Wilroc non-wing sprint cars round out the racing action, competing for the Billy Foster Memorial Trophy Friday, before Saturday’s Strawberry Cup.
