Several figure skaters scored personal bests and one hit the podium at the BC Winter Games recently in Vernon.
Oak Bay skater Nico Conforti earned silver in the pre-novice men’s category at the Games that wrapped March 26. Surrey skater Alson Chang won the gold and Aidan Wetzel-Eden of West Kelowna finished in third.
Conforti was on a team of 10 skaters, six boys, from Greater Victoria and Nanaimo to travel to the Games with coach (and his mom) Kirsten Conforti.
The full Zone 6 team, made up of young athletes from Vancouver Island and the Central Coast, finished in the middle of the pack in fifth with seven gold medals, 12, silver and 15 bronze overall.
The Games, delayed from February 2022, included just shy of 1,300 athletes and more than 1,400 volunteers.
