Oak Bay athlete tumbles to gold

Oak Bay’s Ava Stewart, with Falcon Gymnastics, medals at provincial trials

Five Greater Victoria gymnasts from Falcon Gymnastics competed in the Zone 6 provincial trials March 19, earning 10 medals and taking four of the coveted spots to compete at the B.C. championships.

A total 32 gymnasts traveled from Victoria, Nanaimo, Duncan, Comox Valley and Campbell River to compete at the Mt. Arrowsmith Gymnastics Invitational in Port Alberni to earn one of 20 available spots to compete at provincials.

Oak Bay’s Ava Stewart was among the medal-winners. In the Junior Olympic 6 2004, Stewart took the silver medal on vault and displayed some beautiful tumbling, earning her gold medal on floor and a seventh place all-around.

Falcon athletes head back to the gym to train 16 hours a week, polishing routines and skills with the goal to medal at the B.C. championships April 15 to 17 at the Langley Events Centre.
