Hospitals Foundation teams with Royals

When the Victoria Royals take on the Kelowna Rockets on Feb. 21, funds raised will help purchase transportable vital signs monitors.

The Victoria Royals have teamed up with the Victoria Hospitals Foundation to create Hockey For Hospitals and raise funds for vital signs monitors for the Victoria General Hospital Emergency Department.

When the Victoria Royals take on the Kelowna Rockets at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena on Feb. 21, funds raised through ticket sales and at the event will help purchase transportable vital signs monitors.

“We’re excited to join forces with the Victoria Hospitals Foundation to raise money for equipment for the Emergency Department. Giving back to the community is an important priority for the Royals and we’re proud to team up with an organization that makes such a difference in our hospitals,” said Victoria Royals senior VP of sales and marketing, Darren Parker.

Medical teams use the equipment to monitor the pulse, respiratory rate, body temperature and blood pressure of patients who are being transferred between the Emergency Department and other areas of the hospital.

Last year, the VGH Emergency Department cared for 51,000 people, including more than 11,500 children under 17. In addition, Victoria General Hospital is the adult and pediatric trauma centre for Vancouver Island, said Dr. Christine Hall of Island Health.

Tickets are available online at selectyourtickets.com/promo. Enter the code HOCKEYFORHOSPITALS and save $4 on the purchase of a corner seat or $2 on every club seat. The Royals will donate $5 from each club seat sold and $2 from each corner seat to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.
