Traffic solutions require some thought

Re: The light-rail debate (Letters, May 6)

A major problem with the traffic debate is failing to consider all factors and sort them by impact, including cost.

Traffic solutions need thinking through, integrating all factors and presenting them correctly for decision-making.

Costs for roads, bridges, sidewalks and transit should be combined as a separate item on tax statements, including administration costs so the total is clear.

But sound values must be used in decision-making, something voters have not ensured in politicians.
