Silver lining shines after flag heist

There is a silver lining.

Growing up, I was always told to look for the ‘silver lining’. Depending on the circumstances, sometimes it is difficult to find. In this case it is very obvious.

Recently Christine van Reeuwyk wrote an article in the Oak Bay News, “National pride swiped from Oak Bay lawns” (Friday July 10).

The article has generated a few new subscribers. The big surprise occurred at our Rotary luncheon meeting today (Tuesday July 14th) when Jim Force (controller of routes and installers, and himself an installer) produced one of the four flags stolen from the many houses on his Estevan route.

A huge thank you to whomever returned the flag. It is really appreciated by the members of our committee and all of the club members.

Perhaps the other three flags from the Estevan route and the flag and stake taken from the house on Oliver might be returned. We hope so.

On behalf of the committee, thank you to all our subscribers. Of the 264 subscribers, the majority are Oak Bay residents while the balance live in numerous areas of Greater Victoria
